Background

Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) is pleased to invite university staff from the faculties and halls/colleges to serve as Student Activities Advisors in order to provide guidance and support to Student Societies registered with Co-curricular Support Office (CCSO) and other student groups at HKU. The names and emails of Student Activities Advisor will be posted on the website of CEDARS for students' reference. 

Objectives

  • Provide guidance and support to Student Societies throughout the planning and execution stages of their activities, thereby ensuring the student-led activities are conducted in a lawful, respectful, appropriate, inclusive and safe manner.

Responsibilities & Duties

The Student Activities Advisor shall: ​

  • Maintain regular contact and involvement with CEDARS and the ExCos of the respective Hall/College Students Association or Faculty Society.
  • Ensure the Student Society's proper compliance and implementation of  Orientation Regulations for Student Societies, Hall Orientation Guidelines (applicable to halls only), as well as other University Policies during student-led activities. ​
  • Communicate with CEDARS regarding suspected violations of the Orientation Regulations and University Policies and severe incidents impacting the health, safety and well-being of students during student-led activities. 

Enrollment

  • Each hall/college and faculty may appoint one staff member as Student Activities Advisor by filling in this enrollment form. Upon receipt, CEDARS will send an acknowledgement email to the respective hall/college and faculty. 

Desired Job Rank & Qualities

A (Senior) Resident Tutor in Halls/Colleges; OR

A member of the Faculty staff at the rank of Administrative Assistant II/Executive Officer or above, who possesses the following qualities: 

  • Knowledge and experience of and passion for student affairs preferred;
  • Strong sense of duty of care;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, outgoing, energetic, observant, enthusiastic, communicative;
  • A good liaison between your Faculty/Hall, CEDARS and the Student Society.
