Introduction

University Financial Assistance (UFA) is means-tested. University funds are in general used to supplement government financial aid and should not be seen as an alternative to government financial support.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A local HK permanent resident; 
  • Full-time undergraduate newly admitted to HKU this year; and
  • In receipt of comprehensive social security assistance prior to entry to the University.

Priority goes to those with financial difficulties to cover immediate expenses upon entry to university.

Applicants are expected to apply for the Government TSFS to cover the bulk of their university expenses.

CEDARS reserves the right to make final decision on eligibility.

If you cannot upload the files successfully or you have additional supporting documents, please email the files to cedarsufa@hku.hk within 2 working days.

List of Supporting Documents to be uploaded:
1. Copy of your TSFS Application form in the current academic year.
2. A copy of the notification letter from the Social Welfare Department (SWD) for family member(s) who is/are receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) for the current time.
3.  A copy of the Waiver of Charges for CSSA Recipients from the SWD.

Notes to applicant

- Applicants does not need to provide information relating to his/her family income and assets when the application is submitted. CEDARS may contact the applicant if supplementary information or documents about his/her family income and assets are required. 

- You may be invited for an interview to elaborate on your request. Failure to attend the interview will lead to rejection of your application.
